Microchip Technology PCI1001/3/4/5 Switchtec™ PCIe Switches

Microchip Technology PCI1001/3/4/5 Switchtec™ Low Lane Count PCIe Switches build on the legacy of Microchip’s high‑performance Switchtec product line. These devices deliver many of the features found in larger data‑center‑class switches, but in a compact, low‑lane‑count format that supports flexible PCIe connectivity and efficient system design. A smaller form factor makes the components ideal for System-on-Chip (SoC) and accelerator interfaces, as well as for expanding port‑ or lane‑limited PCIe connections. The PCIe Gen 4 switch family complies with the PCIe Base Specification 4.0 and supports up to 16 lanes, offering Non‑Transparent Bridge (NTB) options, embedded low‑power states, and extensive diagnostics and debugging capabilities.

Preconfigured product variants provide up to eight ports, with all ports NTB‑capable and some preconfigured depending on the specific device. Lane configurations vary by product and include x2 and x4 options, with all ports capable of operating at reduced lane counts when required by a connected Root Complex (RC) or Endpoint (EP). Independent software domains allow RC devices to directly access assigned ports, while NTB functionality enables communication between separate domains. Additional features include support for cut‑through switching and advanced power‑saving modes such as idling of unused ports and clock removal in L1 states.

The Microchip PCI100x family maintains end‑to‑end data integrity and low latency performance consistent with other Switchtec products, delivering a typical packet latency of 120ns for port‑to‑port transfers. Robust diagnostic tools are available through the ChipLink suite, which includes a PCIe analyzer, configurable stack error counters, eye‑opening margining, and firmware logging. Secure boot and software update support further enhance reliability.

Designed for demanding embedded applications, the PCI100x switches are well-suited for automotive Level 2+ and Level 3 ADAS systems, defense/aerospace computing, embedded servers, industrial PCs, and compact video systems. To support functional safety requirements, the PCI100x family is fully ISO‑26262 compliant and carries an ASIL‑B rating. Extensive PCIe reporting and monitoring capabilities provide detailed visibility into switch status, data flow, and node connectivity.

The Microchip PCI100x family is available in commercial (0°C to +70°C), industrial (‑40°C to +85°C), and AEC‑Q100 Automotive Grade 2 (‑40°C to +105°C) temperature ranges, offering versatility across a wide range of deployment environments.
