onsemi NCV8405A/B Self-Protected Low Side Drivers

onsemi NCV8405A and NCV8405B Self-Protected Low Side Drivers are fully self‑protected, low‑side smart MOSFET drivers designed to provide reliable switching performance in harsh automotive and industrial environments. These three‑terminal devices integrate extensive protection features, including short‑circuit protection, thermal shutdown with automatic restart, overvoltage protection through internal drain‑to‑gate clamping, ESD protection, and strong dV/dt robustness, making the onsemi NCV8405A and NCV8405B drivers highly resilient in electrically demanding conditions.

These drivers support logic‑level (analog) drive capability, allowing easy interfacing with microcontrollers and other low‑voltage control circuits. As AEC‑Q101‑qualified devices, NCV8405A and NCV8405B meet stringent automotive reliability standards and are offered in lead‑free, halogen‑free, and RoHS‑compliant packages.

Electrically, both versions feature a clamped drain‑to‑source breakdown voltage of 42V, a typical RDS(on) of 90mΩ at VGS = 10V, and a current capability of up to 6A, limited internally based on input conditions. Ruggedness is further enhanced by a 275mJ single‑pulse avalanche energy rating, suitable for switching resistive, inductive, or capacitive loads. Available in SOT‑223 and DPAK packages, the NCV8405A and NCV8405AB devices provide compact and thermally efficient options for replacing electromechanical relays or discrete switching circuits in a wide range of automotive and industrial applications.
